Signatures of enhanced octupole correlations at high spin in 136Nd
2020
Experimental signatures of moderately enhanced octupole correlations at high spin in 136Nd are indicated for the first time. The extracted dipole moments of two negative-parity bands are only two times smaller than those of the lanthanide nuclei with N≈90 which present well-established octupole correlations. Calculations using the cranked quasiparticle random phase approximation and a model of quadrupole-octupole rotations with octupole vibrations reveal the structure of the bands and the enhanced octupole correlations at high spin in 136Nd. peerReviewed
Lumbar facet joint stabilization for symptomatic spinal degenerative disease: A systematic review of the literature
2022
Objective: Lumbar spinal degenerative disease (LSDD), unresponsive to conservative therapy, is commonly treated by surgical decompression and interbody fusion. Since facet joint incompetence has been suggested as responsible for the entire phenomenon of spinal degeneration, facet stabilization can be considered as an alternative technique to treat symptomatic spinal degenerative disease. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature for studies utilizing lumbar facet joint fixation techniques for LSDD to assess their safety and efficacy. Methods: A systematic literature review was performed following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analy…
Design Scheme of New Tetragonal Heusler Compounds for Spin-Transfer Torque Applications and its Experimental Realization
2012
Band Jahn-Teller type structural instabilities of cubic Mn(2)YZ Heusler compounds causing tetragonal distortions can be predicted by ab initio band-structure calculations. This allows for identification of new Heusler materials with tunable magnetic and structural properties that can satisfy the demands for spintronic applications, such as in spin-transfer torque-based devices.
Long-term socio-economic impact of COVID-19 on sport sector
2021
The nature of the Covid-19 pandemic’s induced economic crisis is unprecedented: beyond the repeated health and economic shocks, the long-term effects on human capital, productivity and behaviour may also be long-lasting. One of the sectors hit particularly severe by the impacts of Covid-19 is sport. The very existence and work of sport organisations, clubs, professional sport leagues, fitness centres, athletes, coaches, sport staff, sport volunteers and sport-related business, including sport event organisers and sport media, have been battling with staying afloat by cutting all unnecessary expenses and consolidating costs while also trying to maintain the community feel of bringing people …
Relationship between genetic background and performance in professional basketball players
Etyczny wymiar relacji w sektorze finansowym w świetle koncepcji personalistycznej
2018

Fish introductions and light modulate food web fluxes in tropical streams : a whole-ecosystem experimental approach
2016
Decades of ecological study have demonstrated the importance of top-down and bottom-up controls on food webs, yet few studies within this context have quantified the magnitude of energy and material fluxes at the whole-ecosystem scale. We examined top-down and bottom-up effects on food web fluxes using a field experiment that manipulated the presence of a consumer, the Trinidadian guppy Poecilia reticulata, and the production of basal resources by thinning the riparian forest canopy to increase incident light. To gauge the effects of these reach-scale manipulations on food web fluxes, we used a nitrogen (15N) stable isotope tracer to compare basal resource treatments (thinned canopy vs. con…
First measurements of field metabolic rate in wild juvenile fishes show strong thermal sensitivity but variations between sympatric ecotypes
2021
The relationship between physiology and temperature has a large influence on population-level responses to climate change. In natural settings, direct thermal effects on metabolism may be exaggerated or offset by behavioural responses influencing individual energy balance. Drawing on a newly developed proxy, we provide the first estimates of the thermal performance curve of field metabolism in a wild fish. We investigate the thermal sensitivity of field metabolic rate in two sympatric, genetically distinct ecotypes of Atlantic cod from the Skagerrak coast of southern Norway. The combined ecotype median of field metabolic rate increased with increasing temperature until around 16°C, coincide…
Broglie and Young, visionaries who shed light in the polar topology that grounds our reality: a hypothesis
2020
